After many years apprenticeship with his father Tom Brennan, the company was started in 1988 by Simon Brennan. Originally dealing in domestic installations with 2 employees, the business started to work with more leisure and commercial contracts as the word of the quality of craftsmanship went around.

In 1991 Simon’s wife Elizabeth joined the business and became company secretary. The name of the company was changed to ‘New City Flooring Ltd’ in 1992 as Sunderland the local town was awarded ‘city’ status. After starting with 2 employees in 1988 New City Flooring now employ 28 full time staff and many regional sub-contractors.
